The Origin (農會起源)
This association was established in 1910, during the time of Japanese occupation. In the beginning, the association was owned by Taipei’s PaLiSa Trust & Cooperative Society. Later the name of the association was changed to Sunshin Trust & Cooperative Society in 1946. The Sunshin Farmer’s Association was officially founded.
In 1975, the Sunshin Farmer’s Association joined with the Datong Farmer’s Association to become the current Sunshin Area Farmer’s Association of Yilan County.
Sunshin and Datong are located in middle and upper part of LanYang River, and both of these areas possess well-fertilized land and clean pure water. In addition to a rich harvest of rice, this general agricultural area is also know for its successful cultivation and trading of top-quality produce, such as: green onions, garlic, Admiral tea, Admiral pear, oranges, black persimmon tomato, WenTang pomelo, Datong Yulan tea, Shichi high mountain vegetables, and pussy willows.
Starting in 1996, the Sunshin Green Onion and Garlic Festival is held annually. This festival is a nationally-renowned event that showcases residents’ passion for local agriculture and heritage. This festival has raised the awareness and popularity of the general area and its agricultural produce.
